  • Oversized and heavy cargo. Tracked vehicles and outsized loads need specific rolling stock, route surveys, and special transit permits that can take weeks to secure. Pre-validated loading sketches and advance route confirmation are what turn a multi-week process into a deployable capability.
  • Cross-border interoperability. A move from the Benelux to the Baltics, or from eastern France to Romania, crosses multiple infrastructure managers, signalling systems, and regulatory regimes. Coordinating block trains across those boundaries is a discipline in itself.
  • Capacity assurance. Guaranteeing that the right wagons are available on the right corridor on short notice isn’t something you can improvise. It requires commercial mechanisms, framework agreements, assured-access arrangements, that the freight sector is well placed to design.

These are not abstract policy issues. They are operational rail questions, and the answers will come from the operators, forwarders, and intermodal specialists who run these corridors commercially.
